Long Term Community Housing
The Long Term Community Housing Program is a Queensland Government program administered by the Department of Housing.
The program is designed to involve local government and not-for-profit community organisations in the provision of locally-managed, long-term rental housing for low-income earners whose needs are not adequately met by other housing options.
Capital funds are provided on a conditional basis to eligible organisations for the construction, acquisition and/or modification/upgrading of housing.Objectives
The main objectives of the program are:
- to involve local government and not-for-profit community organisations in the provision and management of long-term, secure, community managed rental housing for low-income people;
- to encourage the provision of long-term community managed rental housing which is directed to addressing identified housing needs in rural, regional and other identified priority areas; and
- to encourage local government and community organisations to work co-operatively with the Queensland Government in addressing local housing needs.
Target groups
Target groups include older people, people with disabilities, single people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from non-English-speaking backgrounds and low-income families.
Eligibility
The following types of organisations are eligible to be considered for funding to provide services under the program:
- not-for-profit incorporated organisations;
- local governments;
- Aboriginal or Island Councils.
Proposals from organisations sponsored by any of the above organisations, as well as joint proposals, are also eligible for consideration.
Eligible organisations submit Expressions of Interest that are considered in an annual resource allocation process. Assessment is based on the need for the service and demonstrated capacity to provide the service.Funding conditions
To receive funding or other assistance from the Department of Housing to provide a housing service, organisations must be:
- registered under the Housing Act 2003; and
- bound by the terms and conditions of the program specifications and the assistance agreement entered into with the Department of Housing.
