Indigenous community housing
Introduction of Community Housing Rent Policy for Indigenous Councils
The Queensland Government introduced the Community Housing Rent Policy for Indigenous Councils on 1 July 2009 to bring social housing in Indigenous communities into line with all other social housing in Queensland. This new policy will create a fair, affordable and consistent housing system for all tenants and social housing providers in Queensland.
Further information including a set of four fact sheets is available.
New arrangements for Indigenous community housing organisations
Indigenous community housing organisations, which were previously funded under the Australian Government’s Community Housing and Infrastructure Program, are invited to become part of Queensland’s one social housing system.
Organisations that transition to the one social housing system will be eligible for upgrades to their properties to bring them to a public housing standard.
For more information about these new arrangements, please read the Information bulletins.
More information on Queensland’s one social housing system is also available.
