Policies and strategies
The Department of Housing’s Affordable Housing in Sustainable Communities Strategic Action Plan was endorsed by State Cabinet in 2001.
This strategy establishes the department’s role in providing leadership to support the provision of affordable housing in Queensland and in contributing to the sustainability of communities.
The Strategic Action Plan sets out a range of key strategies and priority actions covering:
- policy development and legislation;
- taxation and finance;
- land use planning and corporate planning at State, regional, and local levels; and
- innovative approaches to the delivery of affordable housing, communications and information and development of products and services.

The Affordable Housing Strategy was prepared following release of a Discussion Paper in November 2000.
